Brain Food
On Collusion: Vitalik Buterin (Ethereum co-founder) dives deep into the attack vectors facing different governance systems. Majority games (i.e. governance systems in which 51% of the participants can cooperate to seize control of shared resources) do not have any stable equilibriums that are invulnerable to attack from profit-seeking coalitions. One solution is to restrict our governance systems to games which do not have this instability, e.g. futarchy, however these are limited in their use cases. Alternatively, if we can solve the challenge of robust decentralised identities that cannot be rented/sold, we can make majority games collusion-resistant.
Lessons in decentralised governance from Twitch Plays Pokemon: Twitch Plays Pokemon was a novel mass-participation gaming experiment, which might offer valuable insights into self-organisation if we iterate and conduct experiments that modify the incentives/scenarios at play. Flex Dapps will be working on exactly that.
Governance FTW! Episode 0: Following their Twitter discussions last week, Lane Rettig (Ethereum), Santiago Siri (Democracy Earth), and Luke Duncan (Aragon), sat down to discuss governance.
On coordination, corruption and real-world things that simply need our help right now: DAOs have a very real use case in non-profits and cooperatives who struggle to navigate bureaucracy, fund mismanagement, and corrupt middlemen.
Facebook DAOs?: An intriguing prediction by Daniel Shavit (Pando, DAO Incubator) that Facebook could move to DAOs after their stablecoin is complete, in order to meet the SEC's "sufficiently decentralized" guidance, offering a KYC solution to Dark DAOs and enabling friends to create temporary orgs (e.g. for events).
Delegation in DAOs: Jake Brukhman (Coinfund) suggests that DAOs will naturally delegate responsibility to key stakeholders to overcome paralysis, which is still better than traditional hierarchical governance since the DAO can withdraw delegation instantly.
